TAD NewsDesk, Maharashtra: Though partial lockdown has impacted a lot of things in Maharashtra, the case is not the same with sales of foodgrains, kirana, fruits and vegetables the demand of which has remained stable despite everything.
Unlike last year when the sale of pulses, rice, flour and other essential food items had more than doubled in April 2020 as retail household consumers had resorted to stocking and panic buying, the demand this April is tepid.
This time right amount of awareness among people that the essential services will continue to function has avoided panic buying.
Speaking about impact of partial lockdown announced in Maharashtra on sales of daily essentials like pulses, rice, grains, wheat flour etc in Mumbai city, Nilesh Veera, director (grains trade) at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Vashi said that the footfalls of consumers at the kirana stores had increased slightly on Monday and Tuesday.
The night curfew along with strict SOP’s have been implemented in Maharashtra due to a tremendous rise in the number of Covid 19 cases. Even though large scale vaccination drives are going on in the country, the number of rising cases are marking a second wave of Coronavirus in the country.
