TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: On January 25, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police (Intelligence), Devendra Pathak has alleged that nearly 300 Twitter handles have been traced to Pakistan which could disrupt the farmers’ tractor rally on Republic Day.
A day before the national holiday, information has been received that all these 300 Twitter accounts have been traced to Pakistan. It is suspected that the accounts could disrupt and hijack the tractor rally on Republic Day by protesting farmers.
Infuriated with the recent farm laws, farmers have been protesting against the Centre’s policies for almost two months. The farmers would finally conduct a tractor rally on Republic Day amid tight security to give a strong message to the ruling government.
“Over 300 Twitter handles have been generated from Pakistan during January 13 to 18 to disrupt the tractor rally by farmers only by misleading people. There are inputs about the same from different agencies too. It will be a challenging task for us, but the rally will be conducted amid tight security after the Republic Day parade is over,” Mr Pathak said at a news conference.
Informing that the Pakistani Twitter handles have been putting hashtags linked to disrupting the farmers’ protest, he said, “There is a threat perception that Pakistan-based terrorist groups can create some trouble. Mischievous elements can create a law-and-order situation. The 308 Twitter handles originating from Pakistan have been pushing hashtags linked to the farmers’ protest and the tractor rally.”
Beginning since November 2020, farmers from across India and especially Punjab and Haryana farmers have been protesting Delhi’s Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur Border, demanding the repeal of the contentious farm laws.
Although the Delhi police has asked the farmer leaders to hold the tractor parade outside the national capital, farmers are determined to hold the rally on Delhi’s busy Outer Ring Road. During the fourth round of talks on January 22, the unions and police officers from Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have finally agreed to the tractor parade on the Republic Day.
