Scindia said during the launch that the project will focus on shipping biodegradable food products across India from mountainous areas, northeastern states, and tribal territories. The plan, according to the minister, demonstrates the government’s commitment to tripling farmers’ income.

Speaking about Krishi UDAN 2.0, the Minister emphasized the government’s efforts to reach the country’s most remote locations in quest of perishable goods.

“Our ministry has launched the Krishi Udaan 2.0 scheme to enter deeper into the hinterland, to be able to give value especially for perishable commodities,” Scindia said.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation will provide a full waiver on landing, parking, terminal navigation, and landing expenses, as well as route navigation facility charges, for domestic airlines under the Krishi UDAN 2.0 scheme.

What does the scheme say?

It lays out a vision for boosting value realization through improved integration and optimization of agri-harvesting and air transportation, as well as contributing to the sustainability and resilience of the agri-value chain under varying and dynamic conditions.

Earlier this month, ahead of UDAN Day (October 21st), the Ministry of Civil Aviation launched six new routes under the UDAN Scheme, increasing aerial connectivity in North-East India.

Perishable food goods from hilly areas, northeastern states, and tribal areas would be transported under Krishi UDAN 2.0.

Farmers, freight forwarders, and airlines are expected to gain from the program, which will be implemented at 53 airports around the country, with a concentration on the northeast and tribal regions.

How Will The Farmers Be Benefited Through This?

Farmers will benefit immediately as a result of this. Farmers must migrate from one location to another to sell their produce, and they must deal with a variety of issues as a result. Their harvests can rot before they reach the market, resulting in the farmers’ hard work being for naught.

The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Udan Yojana was established to protect farmers from this loss and to ensure that their products were delivered to the market on time. Last year, when presenting the Budget 2020-21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said this.

Farmers in the country who want to take advantage of this program must first register with the program. Following that, farmer brothers can benefit from this scheme.

The government would also encourage airlines under the Krishi Udan scheme. Agricultural produce will be transported to various parts of the country via the airport. At least half of the seats on the flights will be subsidized under the scheme.

Under Krishi Udan 2.0, an online platform called E-Kushal would be built to make information about agricultural produce transportation more accessible to all stakeholders.

E-Kushal might also be linked to the National Agriculture Market, according to the government (e-NAM). The plan now has a timeline that runs until 2025, and it will be revised based on the results of the pilot.
