Onion prices at varied rates in the country; Highest and lowest at Rs 100/per kg to Rs 35/per kg

All India average of onion prices is marked at Rs 70/kg

TAD News Desk, New Delhi: Onion has been the part of the political discourse for its exclusively high prices in the country since the last few months. Out of 114 cities, the onion was priced at Rs 100 per kg at Bengaluru and Rs 35 per kg at only two cities — Udaipur in Rajasthan and Rampurhat in Birbhum district of West Bengal.

Piyush Goyal, Consumer Affairs and Food Minister announced the release of buffer stock into the market which would lead to the fall in prices. Till now the difference has been seen only in the two out of 114 cities.

As of 2nd of November, the All India average price was Rs 70 per kg.

Since onion is one indispensable kitchen item in most of the households in the country, people are buying it at very high rates anyway.

Maharastra is the top onion producer of the country. And the retail price was surprisingly seen at a mark of Rs 77/kg in Mumbai as well.

Some of the other prominent cities saw varied rates of onions which are as follows:

  • Delhi- Rs 65 per kg
  • Kolkata- Rs 70 per kg and
  • Chennai- Rs 72 per kg

Due to heavy rainfall, this year Kharif crop has got damaged and hence the country is facing troubles. Imports of onion along with other crops has also been done an attempt to reduce the prices. Government has taken various steps till now to bring down the prices and is still doing its best to provide normalized rates in the festive season.
