TAD News Desk, New Delhi: A video message was released by Crop life India, a conglomeration of 15 R&D driven crop insurance companies, in collaboration with Agriculture department, Maharashtra government, to reach the medical fraternity. The video disseminated had the aim to enrich medical practitioners about the knowledge and guidance for treating pesticide affected patients through ‘recognition, management and treatment’.
Improper or unsafe application of agrochemicals, lead to accidental poisoning. The stewardship program of Crop Life India released the video message to equip the medical practitioners to treat such cases.
“Department of Agriculture appreciates CropLife India and its member companies’ efforts to motivate farmers through implementation of awareness programmes of safety measures for spraying of pesticides in this crucial phase of COVID-19 pandemic,” told the chief quality control officer and Director, Commissionerate of agriculture, Maharashtra government, Sunil Borkar.
WHO acknowledged expert and former chairman of the scientific panel on pesticide residues and antibiotics, Dr Debabrata Kanungo, FSSAI said, “CropLife India’s endeavour has been to reorient the doctors regarding handling and managing accidental poisoning case due to mishandling of pesticides. As COVID-19 has imposed restrictions on face to face meetings, this video message is an excellent and timely tool to aid the process of the requisite knowledge transfer.”
CEO of Crop Life India, Asitva Sen told, “CropLife India members are committed towards promoting the safe and responsible use of crop protection products through industry stewardship initiatives. It is widely understood that safe and responsible use of crop protection products helps in safeguarding farmers’ health and encourages sustainable agriculture. The program of Crop Life India reaches out to medical practitioners to equip them with proper knowledge on how to treat pesticide-poisoned patients. It focuses on the new and strategic approach towards patients through, recognition, management, and treatment of pesticide poisoning. It will educate them of the general stabilization process and basic treatment to tackle poisoned cases.
