TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: For more than two weeks, farmers from across different states in the country has been resolutely making sit-ins in the national capital. One inconclusive meeting has happened between the Union Ministers and the farmers on December 3. They have said that the protest would go on till their demands are met.

Prime Minister made another attempt to provide solace to the farmers and assure about no negative connotation associated with the three laws, said

“I want to tell my farmer brothers and sisters from the sacred ghats of the holy city of Kashi (Varanasi) that our intention is as pious as the water of Maa Ganga (the holy river Ganga).”

Though the BJP led government has been assuring the farmers again and again that there would be no effect on the MSP which would continue as it is, the farmers can’s seem to trust them. After the demonetisation and its ill impact on the economy, every new significant move by the government is scrutinized and not accepted in a rapid manner without questioning. The farmers have been standing against these Bills since its inception in the month of September.

One of the farmers talked about the shallow promises of the government,

“Sarkar puri tarah jhuti hai. Aur Modi sarkar pe ratti bhar bhi bharosa karna apna gala ghotne jaise hai (This government is full of lies. To trust the Modi government is like strangulating yourself).”

Kalwan Singh, 72, a farmer from the village of Durana in the state of Haryana said these laws will “ruin our children’s futures.”

He added, “Even if it takes one month, two months, six months, we will win.”

This pandemic, India is the second worst hit country in the world with more than 9.5 million coronavirus cases. So an ongoing agriculture revolution has been affecting the country’s ratio intensely.

All the farmers union unanimously has announced a Bharat Bandh on December 8 and have also threatened to block all the entry and exits to Delhi.

The farmers have pooled their essential commodities and are preparing langar (Community Kitchen) to provide for themselves.

The farmer’s distrust over the government also owes to the problematic unfulfilled revelations in case of the following schemes:

  • Implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report
  • Irrigation projects
  • Crop insurance
  • Linking MGNREGA to agriculture

Hence farmers are still waiting for the new farm laws to be repealed and are firm in keeping their spirit burning till it is needed.
