Agriculture specialists claim that ‘Kumkum Bhindi’ has 94% polyunsaturated fat, which lowers harmful cholesterol. Along with it, its 66% sodium content aids in the control of high blood pressure, while its 21% iron content lowers the risk of anaemia, and its 5% protein content keeps the body’s metabolic system in check.
According to an ANI report, Misrilal Rajput, a farmer from the Khajuri Kalan area of the Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh, is cultivating red okra (ladyfinger) in his garden. On Sunday, he spoke to the news agency about the advantages of his ladyfinger variation.
“The ladyfinger that I cultivate is red rather than the usual green colour. It is more nutritious and healthy than green ladyfinger. It’s especially good for those with heart and blood pressure problems, diabetes, and high cholesterol,” he noted.
This red type of ladyfinger has anthocyanins and phenolics, which boost its nutritional value, according to Bijendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Ayodhya. Sugar is controlled by the crude fibre in it. It also has a high concentration of vitamin B complex.
Sowing Season
From February to the second week of April is the best time to seed Kumkum Bhindi. It can also be sown in November; growth will be slower in December and January.
but fruits will begin to appear in February and last until November. Early crop prices are also attractive.
Sales
A minimum of 40-50 quintals and a maximum of 70-80 quintals might be grown on an acre of land, according to Rajput.
In response to a question about his product’s sales and price, he stated, “This ladyfinger costs 5-7 times as much as regular ladyfingers. In other malls, it ranges from $75-80 to $300-400 every 250 gram/500 gramme.”
Green ladyfinger is sold at a wholesale rate of Rs 12 to 15 per kg, but red ladyfinger is offered at a wholesale rate of Rs 45 to Rs 80 per kg because it is considered a superfood.
