TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: Thousands of women farmers protesters marched to Delhi on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The women arrived in bulk, some of them even driving tractors to showcase their support to the movement.
The farmer leaders acknowledged this effort by the women. Yogendra Yadav, president, Swaraj India said,
“Sanyukt Kisan Morcha has always given importance to the power of the women farmers during the agitation. Women will lead protests at all the sites — be it the toll barriers or the permanent protest sites. This is their day.”
More than 40,000 farmers arrived at the protest sites of Tigri and Singhu borders of Delhi.
Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) has the largest women unit among all the other organizations.
general secretary BKU (Ugrahan) Sukhdev Singh Kokrikalan said,
“Bhartiya Kisan Union [Ugrahan] has arranged 500 buses, 600 minibuses,115 trucks besides 200 small vehicles to carry the women protesters. These vehicles have left for Delhi. These women protesters will celebrate International women’s Day and go back [to their towns] the next day.”
While describing women’s power and the strength it has put into the protest, the farmer leaders said that the women will come to celebrate Women’s Day on March 8 and return back to take care of the children and elderly people at home.
