TAD NewsDesk, Punjab: In the information given by railways, it has already incurred a loss of Rs 1200 crore till now. Protests are continuing simultaneously in 32 places in the state.
According to the data by the department of railway, over 2,225 freight rakes carrying essential commodities could not be operated due to the blockades caused in various stations. Around 1,350 trains have been forced to be cancelled or had to be diverted.
An official said,
“Losses already expected to have crossed Rs 1,200 crore as agitators continued dharna at platforms/near railway track. Train movement had to be suspended due to operational and safety considerations as agitators have suddenly stopped some train movement and sporadic blockades continued at various places especially around Jandiala, Nabha, Talwandi Sabo and Bathinda.”
He also added,
“Due to the continued blockages at sections of tracks in Punjab, there has been a major adverse impact on freight movement and on availability of vital commodities for farm, industrial and infrastructure sector as well.”
The statement by the railway department also said that the loading of items along with movement have taken a hit.
The Punjab Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh has scheduled a dharna in Rajghat in the national capital because of the refusal by President Ram Nath Kovind to meet a team led by him about the Centre’s farm laws.
The farmers’ agitation had been continuing since the Centre’s farm laws were passed. And it has been very poignant in Punjab. The state has also witnessed the loss of the lives of 12 farmers at the face of this struggle.
