TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: In the current fiscal year, tea board has released around Rs 13.88 crore worth subsidy. It has benefited around 1,112 tea farmers, producers, and plantation staff in South India.
The distribution has been done in the following way as reported by Board Executive Director M Balaji,
- Total of 6.32 crore was disbursed to in the first batch covering April to August.
- An amount of 7.56 crore has now been disbursed for the months starting from September till the end of the fiscal year.
The first batch was disbursed among 453 members and the next batch aim to benefit around 659 members.
The second batch was distributed in the following way: 399 small growers in South India received Rs 1.46 crore subsidies under the Plantation Production Scheme; 46 manufacturers received Rs. 5.73 crore subsidies as an opportunity to manufacture traditional teas; 26 beneficiaries under HRD schemes received Rs. 5 lakh subsidy; 181 beneficiaries under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan schemes received Rs. 31.76 lakh subsidy; and seven recipients under Scheduled Tribe Sub-Plan received Rs. 1.20 lakh.
Mr Balaji said that the amount has been transferred directly into the bank accounts of the respective recipients and an SMS has also been sent in the registered phone numbers to inform about the same.
He also added that throughout the fiscal year the Tea Board is providing various support and aid to small tea growers in need who can enhance productivity with a little bit of support by the government. Fiscal support is basically provided to members of the Self Help Groups of Small Tea Growers to update facilities and to ensure mutual involvement to increase the overall production of tea.
Mr Balaji also added that Financial support is also given to poor people working on plantations for the care of cancer, heart and kidney failure.
