TAD NewsDesk, Kerala: Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala said that the floor price of 16 vegetables has been set and would come into effect from 1st of November. He also added that Kerala is the first state to take this step and ensure a fair price for growers.

To benefit the farmers, the floor price is set 20 percent above the production cost of the vegetables. If the market rate goes below the floor price also, the yield will be acquired from the farmers at the floor price.

This scheme will benefit a farmer who has a maximum of 15 acres of vegetable cultivation per season. The process to benefit from the scheme is to register in the agriculture department’s website. Also, insurance of the crop is to be done beforehand. This will make them eligible to avail the scheme.

Local bodies will have to play a crucial role to coordinate in the procurement and distribution of the vegetables. The scheme has also outlined the process of the supply chain which would include cold storage facilities and refrigerated vehicles for the process of transportation.

Complete list of floor price of vegetables (per kg) is as follows:

  • Cucumber (Rs 8)
  • Tomato (Rs 8)
  • Ash gourd (Rs 9)
  • Cabbage (Rs 11)
  • Tapioca (Rs 12)
  • Pineapple (Rs 15)
  • Snake gourd (Rs 16)
  • Lady’s finger (Rs 20)
  • Potato (Rs 20)
  • Carrot (Rs 21)
  • Beetroot (Rs 21)
  • Wayanad banana (Rs 24)
  • Beans (Rs 28)
  • Banana (Rs 30)
  • Bitter gourd (Rs 30)
  • Long beans (Rs 34)

This year the government is hoping to have an increase in the production of vegetables and trying to provide any incentive in the process to get the results.
