The University of Toronto, founded in 1827, has three campuses in the Greater Toronto Area: St. George in downtown Toronto, Mississauga and Scarborough. It reports 103,140 students in Fall 2025-26. Melanie Woodin began her term as its 17th President on 1 July 2025.

Forestry is taught and researched at the Institute of Forestry & Conservation, part of the university’s Daniels Faculty. The former Faculty of Forestry was founded in 1907 by Bernhard E. Fernow and joined the Daniels Faculty in 2019. The institute offers a 16-month professional Master of Forest Conservation, an MScF and a PhD, and organises research under four themes: urban forestry, restoration and stability, biomaterials and mass timber, and climate change and bioeconomy.

The institute says its biomaterials work links the forestry industry with manufacturing, and its site lists the Mass Timber Institute among its research activities. In India, the university’s centre in Mumbai, the U of T India Foundation, was launched in 2023 with the support of the Tata Trusts.
