The University of Saskatchewan (USask) has its main campus in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and describes itself as a research-intensive, medical doctoral university. It lists more than 25,900 students and facilities including the Canadian Light Source synchrotron and the Global Institute for Food Security.

Agriculture is taught and researched in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources (AgBio), which has five departments: agricultural and resource economics, animal and poultry science, food and bioproduct sciences, plant sciences and soil science. It reports more than 1,300 undergraduate and 330 graduate students. Its Crop Development Centre, in the Department of Plant Sciences, works on the genetic improvement of crops including spring wheat, durum, barley, oat, flax, field pea, lentil, chickpea, fababean and dry bean. Other named facilities include the Canadian Feed Research Centre, the Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence and the Rayner Dairy Research and Teaching Facility. In March 2026, USask said it would co-chair, with India’s NIFTEM in Kundli, work to explore a Canada-India Pulse Protein Centre of Excellence.
