TAD NewsDesk, Patna: Patna and several other places from south and central Bihar are likely to be hit by heavy rainfalls predicts the meteorology department. Indian meteorological department also expects rainfall in some isolated places.
In their daily bulletin, Patna Meteorological Centre mentioned the heavy rainfall that occurred in the Saran district at Jalapur. Some other parts from north-west, north-east, and south-central Bihar also witnessed light to moderate rainfall, and is likely to be hit by heavy ones in the days to come.
Places that recorded heaviest rainfalls were Jalapur (70 mm), Bhimnagar (40 mm) and Katoria, Darbhanga, Simri, and Nauhatta (30 mm each).
There was 25 percent surplus rainfall during this extended four month monsoon season in Bihar. The monsoon ended on September 30 but there are chances for rain as the rain-bearing winds haven’t withdrawn from Bihar. In the monsoon season, recorded rainfall was 1272.5 mm as compared to the normal 1017.2 mm.
S K Patel, the official at Patna meteorological center stated that all but four districts – Bhabhua, Sheikhpura, Saharsa and Arwal – of Bihar witnessed excess rainfall. The aforementioned districts suffered rain deficiency.
Districts such as Araria, Darbhanga, Gopalganj, Katihar and East Champaran had recorded highest rainfall in the state. Patna itself had recorded 17 percent more rainfall.
The heavy rainfall is expected due to the double weather system – cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh, and low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal – as per the weather specialists. Patna meteorological centre reported the presence of low pressure areas in northwest Bay of Bengal and, the Odisha coast. Presence of cyclonic circulations in these areas was also recorded, as per the bulletin issued.
