The University of Göttingen (Georg-August-Universität Göttingen) is a research university in Göttingen, Germany, founded in 1737. Since 2003 it has had the legal status of a foundation under public law, and it teaches across 13 faculties.

Its Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, founded in 1952, is organised in three departments: Crop Sciences, Animal Sciences, and Agricultural Economics and Rural Development. The faculty says its research covers food, resource and energy production on farms and in the upstream and downstream parts of the value chain, with a tropical and international orientation. Its research centres include the Centre of Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Use and the Institute of Sugar Beet Research (IfZ), which the faculty says is funded by the sugar beet industry. The university’s research and demonstration farms cover more than 1,000 ha. A Master’s programme in Sustainable International Agriculture is run with the University of Kassel, and forestry is taught in a separate Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology.
