The University of California, Riverside (UCR) is a campus of the University of California system in Riverside, California. Its forerunner, the Riverside Citrus Experiment Station, opened in 1907, and UCR held its first classes and was dedicated in 1954. The university reported 27,633 students enrolled in fall 2025.

Agricultural teaching and research sit in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS), whose 13 departments span the life, physical, mathematical and agricultural sciences. As a land-grant campus, UCR houses an Agricultural Experiment Station, administered through UC Agriculture and Natural Resources, which reports 1,020 acres of land and 120 scientists. Research units include the Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (CAFE), which the college says brings together precision and digital agriculture and agronomic expertise for arid and semi-arid regions, the Citrus Clonal Protection Program and the Givaudan Citrus Variety Collection. UCR says Spanish company Eurosemillas, its largest international licensee of the Tango mandarin, signed a $5 million, five-year agreement in 2019 to expand their research and licensing partnership.
