The University of California, Davis is a public university in Davis, California, about 15 miles west of Sacramento. The university says it was founded in 1908 to serve the state of California and that its nearly 40,000 students make it the largest student population in the University of California system.
Agriculture is taught and researched in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, whose majors include Plant Sciences, Animal Science, Viticulture and Enology, and Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems. On 19 May 2026 the university opened the 34,000 square foot Resnick Center for Agricultural Innovation within the college, supported by a $50 million gift made in 2022 by Lynda and Stewart Resnick, co-owners of The Wonderful Company, of which $40 million was for the facility. The university says the centre’s labs use robotics, sensors, data science and artificial intelligence, and that researchers there study how almond and pistachio hulls and other agricultural byproducts can be reused. Its published research history includes strawberry, rice, tomato and honeybee breeding.
