Université Paris-Saclay was officially created on 5 November 2019 by decree. It is located south of Paris and brings together five faculties, three university institutes of technology, an engineering school, four grandes écoles including AgroParisTech, two associate member institutions and seven research organisations, among them INRAE and CNRS.
Agriculture and food research and graduate training are organised through the Graduate School Biosphera (Biology, Society, Ecology & Environment, Resources, Agriculture & Food), coordinated by AgroParisTech with the School of Science, the universities of Evry and Versailles Saint-Quentin, INRAE, CNRS and CEA. Biosphera says it brings together 31 laboratories and about one hundred teams working in animal sciences, plant sciences, ecology and evolution, nutrition and food sciences, climate and environment, and biobased economics, with cross-cutting work on agroecology, bioeconomics and global health. Its laboratories include the Institut Jean-Pierre Bourgin and the Institut des Sciences des Plantes Paris-Saclay. The university says 50 start-ups are created each year, and it reports more than 500 industrial partnerships and six incubators.
