The University of Queensland (UQ) is a university in Brisbane, Australia, established through a 1909 Act of the Queensland Parliament and officially founded in 1910. In 1990 it merged with the Queensland Agricultural College at Gatton, now its regional campus for agricultural, environmental and animal science.
Agriculture is taught in the School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability in the Faculty of Science, established in June 2023 from predecessor schools. Its research themes are agribusiness, rural development and economics; animal science; crop science; food science and technology; plant science; and soil science. Gatton has a 1,000-hectare working farm with dairy, cropping and grazing units, and the Queensland Animal Science Precinct. The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI), a UQ research institute that it says is supported by industry and the Queensland Government, works across crops, horticulture, animals, and nutrition and food sciences. The school also lists the ARC Centre of Excellence for Plant Success in Nature and Agriculture and the Food and Beverage Accelerator among its research centres.
