The University of Melbourne was established in 1853 and is based in Melbourne, Australia. Its Annual Report 2025 records 76,504 enrolled students in 2025. Professor Carolyn Evans began as the university’s 22nd Vice-Chancellor in October 2026.
Agriculture and forestry sit in the School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences, part of the Faculty of Science. The school says it was formed in January 2023 when the School of Agriculture and Food and the School of Ecosystem and Forest Science merged, and that its staff work across the Parkville, Dookie, Burnley and Creswick campuses. It lists research on climate change, food security, biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management, invasive species and sustainable agricultural practices.
The Dookie campus, between Shepparton and Benalla, has a robotic dairy with three milking robots, 43 hectares of irrigated pasture, a research vineyard and winery, and animal growth and nutrition facilities, the school says. The annual report also refers to orchard drought-resilience trials at the Drought Innovation Hub on the Dookie campus.
