TAD NewsDesk, Andhra Pradesh: With the change in climate each year, there is always a chance of crop failure. The farmers need assurance in the form of insurance to safeguard themselves against losses incurred by such circumstances. It also helps the farmers to stand firm and manage price risks for their yield.
In a series of schemes launched by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to help farmers in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this scheme is another stepstone. The announcement was made during the ‘YRS Rythu Dinotsavam’.
The Free Crop insurance scheme has come to rescue the farmers for the losses of crop failure. Almost all the cultivators will be benefitted from the scheme as most of the notified crops are under the list. Many farmers have already registered and the scheme is gaining popularity very quickly because of the low registration price.
A substantial increase in the enrollment of farmers in crop insurance has been observed after the launch of this scheme. The number increased from 16.69 lakh in 2018 to 25.73 lakh in 2019. The curve is expected to increase more in the ongoing Kharif season.
Officials said the objective is to cover as many farmers as possible under the scheme so that in case of crop failure the claims could be settled soon. The farmers would be able to use that money for the next production season.
G Chandra, a farmer in Kadapa said,
“Free Insurance Scheme augurs well for the farmers. Now they will feel less burdened & at the same time assured of insurance coverage, so they can cover the losses in case of any natural calamities & go for next crops without delay”.
Besides this scheme, the Andhra Pradesh government is also distributing seeds, fertilizers and pesticides along with the ‘Rythu Bharosa’ amount. This endeavour of the government is really commendable and could be drawn inspiration from for all the other states.
