The Warsaw University of Life Sciences (Szkoła Główna Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego w Warszawie, SGGW) traces its origins to 1816 and describes itself as the oldest agricultural and natural science university in Poland. Its head office is in the Ursynów district of Warsaw, and it says it has nearly 16,000 students in 41 fields of study, 13 of them taught in English.
New organisational regulations took effect on 1 October 2026, replacing 16 research institutes and 14 teaching faculties with eight faculties that combine research and teaching. Agriculture, horticulture and animal science programmes are now run by the Faculty of Bioeconomy and Food Systems, whose departments include agronomy, soil science and agricultural chemistry, and plant protection; forestry sits in the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences. SGGW says it has several experimental plants and farms across Poland. Its research centres include the Water Center and the Food and Nutrition Research and Development Centre, and it opened an Innovative Nutrition Research Center on 8 October 2026.
