Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is a collaboration between Wageningen University and the Wageningen Research foundation, based in Wageningen in the Netherlands. Its stated mission is to explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life. WUR says it comprises one university faculty with five departments and 88 chair groups, alongside eight research institutes of Stichting Wageningen Research.
Agricultural research is organised in science groups that pair a university department with institutes such as Wageningen Plant Research, Wageningen Livestock Research and Wageningen Food & Biobased Research. Wageningen Plant Research says it runs trial sites across the Netherlands, including Lelystad, Vredepeel and Valthermond, manages the Dutch genebank for crops and works with agricultural entrepreneurs, breeding companies and government bodies. WUR reports 48 spin-off companies and 98 startups since 1995, and says it supports the Government of Andhra Pradesh in developing the Agroecological Institute for Circular Studies.
