The University of Florence is a comprehensive university in Florence, Italy. It traces its origins to the Studium Generale established by the Florentine Republic in 1321, and the title of university was formally conferred by decree in 1924. It says it has around 51,000 students and 148 degree programmes across 10 Schools.
Agricultural and forestry research is led by the Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI), formed in 2019 from the union of the GESAAF and DISPAA departments, while teaching is coordinated by the School of Agriculture (Scuola di Agraria). DAGRI says it is the only department of the university in the agricultural field. Its research lines cover agronomy, arboriculture, crop science, agricultural engineering, precision farming, forest ecology and management, wood science, animal science and food science and technology. Its laboratories include the Agrismart Lab, the International Laboratory of Plant Neurobiology (LINV) and a Water Harvesting Lab. DAGRI says it works with public and private institutions and enterprises in the agriculture, food and forestry sectors.
