The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU, Česká zemědělská univerzita v Praze) is a public university under Czech law, with its campus in Prague-Suchdol. The university says its history begins in 1906, when a Faculty of Agriculture was established at the Czech Polytechnics in Prague, and it became an independent university by government decree on 8 July 1952. It reports about 20,000 students, almost 30% of them international, in six faculties and one institute.
Agriculture is taught and researched in the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources (FAFNR), which took its current name in 2005 and says it has more than 4,000 students. Its main research topics include soil science and protection, agro-environmental chemistry, crop and animal husbandry and breeding, and crop protection. The faculty says many applied projects run with farmers and industry, and it supports patenting and spin-off companies. CZU also has faculties of Forestry and Wood Sciences and of Tropical AgriSciences. The university operates the University Farm Estate Lány, established in 1960, and CZU Forests.
