Aarhus University (AU) is a Danish university founded in 1928 in Aarhus, Denmark. It reports 37,500 students for 2025 across five faculties.
Agricultural research and teaching are centred on the Department of Agroecology, which the university says carries out basic, strategic and applied research on the interaction between climate, soil, plants, animals and people, with a focus on health, sustainability and environmentally friendly production of food, feed, energy and bio-based products. It contributes to programmes including the Bachelor in Plant and Food Science and the Master of Agrobiology. The department has eight research sections, around 270 employees and three research stations, Flakkebjerg, Askov and Foulumgård, with sites at AU Foulum, AU Flakkebjerg and Aarhus. AU’s agricultural and food departments, including Food Science and Animal and Veterinary Sciences, work together in DCA, the Danish Centre for Food and Agriculture, which the university says provides research-based policy support to Denmark’s Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries under contract.
