TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi:Again in another meeting between the government and the farmers, the deadlock still remains. The talks remained inconclusive and the next round of talks has been proposed on January 19.
Agricultural Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar said,
“We hope discussions would continue. The Government offered that the farmers can form an informal group among themselves and submit a proposal on what they want.”
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said that the committee formed by the Supreme Court to take a decision on their situation is not acceptable to them hence they will continue the discussion and find a solution.
This was the first meeting held after the Supreme Court formed a committee to break the deadlock.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Railways, Commerce and Food Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Som Parkash, who is an MP from Punjab, held talks with the representatives of around 40 farmer unions for over four hours. Tomar had on Thursday confirmed the talks saying it will be done with ‘an open mind’.
Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi has asked the people to join the satyagraha by the farmers to support their endeavours. He claims thatbthis is an attempt to”finish the farmers” by the BJP government. The Congress is observing the day as Kisan Adhikar Divas and will take out protest marches in all state capitals.
He added,
“If we don’t stop this now, it will continue to happen in other sectors too. Narendra Modi does not respect the farmers. The farmers will neither deter nor fear.”
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu and party workers were detained while trying to march towards Raj Bhavan in Lucknow during a protest against the new farm laws.
The farmers have been protesting against the three centre farm laws and want the centre to repeal it. they would accept nothing lesser than that. While the centre, on the other hand, is ready to make amends to the law but not to repeal it, hence the deadlock still stays.
Next round of talks on January 19 at 12 Pm will bring more light to the situation.
