AGCO said on 30 September 2026 that its Massey Ferguson brand has formed a strategic supply partnership with International Tractors Limited (ITL), the Indian company behind the Sonalika tractor brand, to add a new value-oriented range of compact tractors. The partnership covers compact models starting from 20 hp. AGCO said the initial rollout is planned across the Europe and Middle East (EME) region through a phased introduction during 2027.
The announcement, issued from AGCO’s base in Duluth, Georgia, coincided with the launch of the range to Massey Ferguson dealers and customers. AGCO described ITL as one of the leading manufacturers of low horsepower and compact tractors. According to the company description in the release, ITL has an annual production capacity of 300,000 tractors and builds Stage V and Tier 4 compliant platforms.
What the companies said
Massey Ferguson positioned the range for buyers beyond full-time farming.
This new offering represents an important step in Massey Ferguson’s strategy to strengthen its position in the growing compact tractor market, serving an increasingly diverse customer base that includes private landowners, municipalities, grounds care professionals and part-time farmers.
Jérôme Aubrion, Senior Marketing Director, Massey Ferguson Europe and Middle East
Mr Aubrion also said the new tractors will carry the quality, support and customer experience the brand is known for. Dr. Deepak Mittal, Managing Director of ITL, called the partnership “an important milestone in ITL’s global journey” and said the tractors are being developed to Massey Ferguson’s specifications.
Together, we are developing a range built to Massey Ferguson’s specifications, combining ITL’s manufacturing scale with the design, support and dealer experience that Massey Ferguson customers expect.
Dr. Deepak Mittal, Managing Director, ITL
What was not disclosed
The companies did not disclose financial terms, expected volumes, model names, the upper end of the horsepower range, retail prices or where the tractors will be built. The release did not say whether the range will be offered outside the EME region. AGCO’s forward-looking statement said actual results could differ because of delays in product development, regulatory approvals or the phased introduction of the new range.
In a separate statement distributed on 3 October through the PNN newswire, Sonalika said it had crossed 1 lakh tractor sales in April to September 2026 and had achieved its highest-ever monthly production of 19,000 tractors at its plant in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. It did not give a monthly sales breakdown.
TAD’s reading
- For Indian manufacturers: Supplying a global brand gives an Indian tractor maker a route into European dealer networks without building its own, and other Indian makers with Stage V capable platforms are likely to watch how the arrangement performs.
- For dealers in the EME region: Massey Ferguson dealers gain an entry-level range aimed at non-farm and part-time buyers, a segment where price and local support usually decide the sale.
- For investors: With no volumes or terms disclosed, the effect on ITL’s exports and on AGCO’s compact tractor margins will only be measurable once the 2027 rollout starts.
