TAD NewsDesk, Alwar: Bharatiya Kisan Union Leader Rakesh Tikait’s convoy was attacked in Alwar, Rajasthan on Friday. He posted a video of his car which had its window glass broken. Tikait has accused BJP of this attack.
Today police have arrested 16 people based on the FIR filed by another farmer leader Balbir Jat. In the FIR he has accused 33 people of attacking Tikait’s convoy. Police have charged them with the attempt to murder and disruption of peace amongst many other charges.
On Friday Tikait was travelling to Bansur from Harsora village of Alwar when this incident happened. He was addressing Kisan panchayats of these villages.
Rakesh Tikait has been the face of the farmer’s protest against the three farm laws on the Ghazipur border for over four months now.
Police confirmed that the attack was done under the leadership of Kuldip Rao on Friday. Rao is the student union president of Raj Rishi Bhartrihari Matsya University. He showed black flags and threw ink at the convoy.
Bhiwadi SP Ram Moorthy Joshi confirmed this, “The car in which Tikait was travelling had already gone ahead when the incident took place. We have information that the protesters also threw ink on the cars. We have also found that the glass of one of the cars in Tikait’s convoy was broken. There was an altercation between supporters of Tikait and those who showed black flags. We have taken four people including Rao into preventive custody for disrupting the peace,” he said.
However, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the attack on Twitter. He tweeted, “The attack on the convoy of Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait Ji in Alwar by BJP people is condemnable, action will be taken against those guilty. Right from the beginning of the farmer protests, the BJP has been giving incessant statements and behaving in an undemocratic way with those who are fighting for the rights of the farmers, which is shameful.”
