TAD NewsDesk. Chhattisgarh: According to a government report, around 141 farmers have committed suicide in Chhattisgarh for the last 10 months.
As this data was presented in the Assembly, the debate became very heated. The opposition BJP demanded a probe in the cases and also sought compensation for the deceased farmers’ families.
The issue was raised by Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik during the Question Hour, when he sought to know how many farmers had committed suicide between April 2020 and February 1, 2021 in the state and the reasons for these deaths.
He also asked about the investigation and its status along with the compensation to the families.
In response, state Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said 141 farmers had committed suicide during the period.
As an attack on it, Kaushik said an investigation should be conducted in all such cases of suicides and compensation should be given to kin of the deceased farmers after probe.
The Agriculture Minister said that this unfortunate event is not a matter of politics but BJP is trying to make an issue out of it. He asserted, suicides have happened before also but they never asked or have provided with any compensation.
As a result of a lot of chaos happened and BJP MLA’s walked out of the Assembly dissatisfied with the reply.
