Tong Engineering designs and manufactures handling equipment for potatoes, onions, carrots and other root crops and vegetables, from single machines to custom-built lines running from farm to pack, the company says. Its range covers grading, cleaning, washing, optical sorting, hoppers, store loading, conveying, weighing and palletising, and it is the UK distributor for Verbruggen palletisers, MAF Roda sorting equipment and Visar optical sorters.
The company says its engineering roots date back to 1930 in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, where it is still based, and that it exports to more than 50 countries. In November 2023 it acquired Terry Johnson Ltd, maker of the Swift Lift range of elevators and conveyors, which now trades as Tong Swift Lift from Holbeach, Lincolnshire, according to its website.
