TAD NewsDesk, Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, has collaborated with Hi-Fi Biotech India Pvt Ltd, Salem and signed an MoU f mass multiplication of banana hybrids. Both the organizations have signed a MoU.
A.S. Krishnamoorthy, Registrar, TNAU, and P Murugesa Boopathi, Managing Director, Hi-Fi Biotech, signed the agreement on behalf of the respective organisations.
The agricultural University has been doing research upon this and this has led to development of banana hybrid CO2 which is tolerant to nematoes.
The University has been working upon banana improvement programme since 1971. That is why this development is a major success into the field. The continued research has resulted in the release of a banana hybrid Co2, which is similar to Ney Poovan (a commercial variety ) and is tolerant to nematodes.
The varsity researchers emphasized the importance of Large scale multiplication of tissue culture plantlets of CO2 is essential for the supply of planting material to farmers in the banana growing districts of Erode, Trichy , Theni and Coimbatore.
Any kind of hybrid breed helping into banana improvement is a revolution in itself brining in a new variety.
