TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: The ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad has established the Millets Processing Custom Hiring Centre at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bidar in Karnataka under the Women Societal Project backed by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India earlier this week.
The aim is to increase the area under Millet production said Dr Vilas A. Tonapi, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad in his inaugural address.
Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Bidar, Karnataka has asked the farmers to use the Millet Processing Unit for cultivating Millets.
One of the most significant aspects of this programme is that this Millet Processing Unit was dedicated to the Women Self Help Group (SHG) Members of the District.
The members were instructed in the following process of Millet production:
- Pre-cleaning
- Destoning
- Dehulling
- Grinding
- Separation & blending of Millets Flour process
Around 100 – 150 Kg of Millets can be processed in one hour in this unit.
As many as 40 Women Self Help Group Members, KVK Scientists & other Stakeholders were present during the occasion.
