TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: In an important declaration, it has been announced that farmers who will grow an identified product on a massive scale in this ensuing Rabi season under ‘One district one product’ plan would receive support from the Central government, so that the cultivators would increase their income by many folds.
A government official stated that,
“Food products that are nutritious can be cultivated in Karnataka, mustard in Rajasthan and, sunflowers in Tamil Nadu. On similar pattern various GI crops can also be grown in various districts like chilli in Guntur and Alphonso mangoes in Ratnagiri”.
The central government further plans to develop these specific districts as niche market places for specific products, and thus develop the wellbeing of the cultivators of the region. Of the 540 districts under active cultivation zones, over 100 of them are expected to greatly benefit from cultivating GI crops.
An official from agriculture ministry stated that the suitable crop product in a given region would be identified as per the suitability of the environmental and market conditions in order to raise the income of farmers.
The central government further plans to provide necessary market linkage that would offer the crop products to be processed or directly exported through FPO (farmer producer organization), if the states encourage the farmers to cultivate the assigned and specified products.
The agriculture ministry would soon setup a committee to implement the scheme and would focus on helping realize the farmers that their income could be increased.
