TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: Sugar Plantation in India is the second largest producer of sweetener in the country. The production has increased three folds and has reached an optimum of 14.10 lakh tonnes in 2020-21. In the previous year, the production was marked at 4.84 lakh tonnes in the same season.
The reasons for this rise in yield are mainly twofold according to ISMA:
-
Better crop output for the year
-
Timely commencement of the crushing operation
India is going to have another year with a surplus of sugar production. It is waiting to hear from the government on the policy decisions of exports and buffer stock creation with the aid of subsidy.
Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) stated that the good amount of rainfall and sufficient water availability in reservoirs in Maharashtra and Karnataka contributed to higher cane acreage.
