TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: With the onset of Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2020-21, the government is continuing with the Minimum Support Price (MSP) as per the existing MSP schemes of the last seasons.
Paddy procurement for KMS 2020-21 increased in the states of Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Kerala and J & K with purchase of over 84.46 LMT’s of paddy from 7.38 lakh farmers.
Moreover, the government has given approval to the proposals for the procurement of 41.67 LMT of pulses and oilseeds to the following states:
- Tamil Nadu
- Karnataka
- Maharashtra
- Telangana
- Gujarat
- Haryana
- Uttar Pradesh
- Odisha
- Rajasthan
- Andhra Pradesh
Approval for procurement of 1.23 LMT of Copra has also been given for the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
For the rest of the states, the approval will also be given on the submission of proposals. These proposals should be for the procurement of pulses, oilseeds and copra.
The government, by means of nodal agencies, has procured 723.79 MT of Moong and Urad having MSP value of Rs 5.21 crores. It benefitted around 681 farmers in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Haryana. Moreover, 5089 MT of copra, a perennial crop having MSP value of Rs 52.40 crore, has also been acquired, helping the cause of 3961 farmers in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The procurement of seed cotton (Kapas) during the KMS 2020-21 by Cotton Corporation of India has acquired a quantity of 165369 bales under MSP for a value of Rs. 46697.86 lakh, which helped the cause of 32994 farmers.
The government is at its peak of procuring pulses and other essential agricultural products for the Kharif marketing season of 2021-21. As it has already bought a considerable amount of the commodities in some states, proposals from others are still awaited which will be scrutinized and given approval to as soon as possible.
