TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: Another round of talk happened today between the farmers and the Union Ministry on December 5. The government has asked for more time to present a concrete proposal and have another round of discussion. Next round of talks is fixed on December 9.
In between the talks today, the farmers went on ‘maun vrat’ asking the government to answer in ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the repealing of the farm laws question.
Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar said to the farmer representatives,
“I appeal to all of you to kindly ask senior citizens and children, at the protest site, to go home.”
On December 8, the farmers Union would go ahead with the Bharat Bandh as no conclusion could be sought today as well in the meeting.
Harvinder Singh Lakhwal, a farmer leader said,
“We have planned to block all roads leading to Delhi in the coming days if new farm laws are not scrapped.”
Some of the concerns raised by the farmers in the meeting again are:
- Will MSP get affected?
- Will the entry of private giants end the traditional mandi system?
Government is still asserting that the laws will only benefit farmers.
Nirmala Sitharaman said the farm reform legislation was brought in after elaborate stakeholder consultations and a lot of homework and will benefit farmers.
Union Ministers, Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah met with the Prime Minister before the meeting. Ministers Piyush Goyal and Narendra Singh Tomar were also present in the meeting.
The opposition is also standing firm with the farmers and has asked the government to repeal the laws.
Proper conclusion, everybody is hoping would be finally gained in the next meeting proposed on December 9. The farmers want an end to the protest and a direct answer from the government.
