According to a statement from the food ministry, the retail price of rice fell 1.78 per cent to Rs 35.28 per kg on August 16 from Rs 35.92 per kg a month earlier.
As per the data released by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, 9.84 lakh metric tonnes of wheat had been sold in 2021-22 through July. Similarly, over the same time period, 4.13 lakh metric tonnes of rice were sold.
Officials stated that a record sale of wheat and rice had helped the ministry keep prices in the retail and wholesale markets under control. Wheat retail prices fell 2.18 per cent to Rs 26.52 per kilogramme on August 16 from Rs 27.11 per kilogramme the previous month.
