TAD NewsDesk, Tamil Nadu: The farmers from Athoor region, Tamil Nadu has reported about a huge crop loss because of the Fall Army worm attack. The loss has been incurred as a result of the destruction of a crop area of 2000 acres of land of maize crop.
One of the farmers said that they had been growing maize for a very long time now and the government officials asked them to increase the area. Despite this, there has been no resolvement done of the the problem of pest and insect control.
The Fall Army worm destructing the crops of these farmers has been noted very recently and they have notified the officials accordingly. Another farmer of the region told that the government officials though promised to assist them, have not visited the area even once.
The farmers said that one of the reasons for which they could not protect the crops was staying in due to the COVID-19 protocols. The crops are damaged to a limit that they are not even of use as fodder for animals.
Seevalseeragu farmers had seen the worst loss of all. Half of the crops got destroyed by the Fall Army worms and the other half got destroyed due to the lack of rainfall. Less rainfall has made the crops totally withered away.
Farmers have said that the government should send the expert team to scrutinize these areas and give training on how to counter the attack of these pests. The insurance company gives very minimal amount for the losses occurred and they should be more sensitive towards their condition, the farmers emphasized.
