TAD NewsDesk, New Delhi: The relentless protest of farmers from across the country on the “Delhi Chalo” call is continuing. The farmers are affirming and standing upright o repeal the three “anti farm laws”. After the unconcluded talks on 3rd of December, the farmers have decided to announce a Bharat bandh on December 8.
After the meeting of all the farm organizations today, Harvinder Singh Lakhwal, one the farmer leaders, said that they have unanimously agreed to observe December 8 as Bharat Bandh. Mr Lakhwal also added that the agitating farmers have decided to block all entry and exit points to Delhi. Moreover, they will also take over all the toll plazas.
Another Kisan union leader, Gurnam Singh Chadoni, said if in the next round of talks, the government does not agree to their demands, their agitation will intensify.
As a mark of support to the farmer’s agitation, the All-India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), the apex organisation of truckers, transporters and passenger vehicle operators, has warned that they would shut operations in north India from December 8 if the Central government did not accede to the farmers’ demand to repeal the three farm laws passed in September.
Naveen Kumar Gupta, secretary general of AIMTC said
“We have given a call for shutdown of operations from December 8 in northern India. This will affect Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. The government must realise that we are with the farmers. Anyway, the movement of trucks has already been stalled. Almost 60% of the truckers depend on agricultural produce, so if they are in trouble, we will support them.”
The farmers have reached Delhi on 25 November to demand the scrapping of the following acts passed by the Central government in the month of September:
- The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act
- The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act
- The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act
The next round of discussion is supposed to happen tomorrow on December 5 where the farmers are resolute about their demands to repeal the three laws.
